SABSA World Brisbane Report – July 2023

Bruce Large hosted a SABSA World Forum in Brisbane on the 31st July 2023 as a joint event with the Australian Information Security Association (AISA) Security Architecture Special Interest Group (SecARCH SIG). The SABSA World Forum also featured special guest David Lynas who was in Brisbane teaching at the time.

The event hosted 35 people of which 5 were SABSA Institute only attendees. A highlight of the evening was to help share the benefits of being a member of TSI and there were at least 3 members that signed up for TSI on the night. The event also had 3 SABSA Masters, 5 “A” Level trained attendees and 9 SCF members.

The session was an open dialogue with members and David and was similar to the SABSA World event hosted on the last day of COSAC APAC 2023. Topics of discussion included:

  • How to better engage with TSI Members
  • How to improve the awareness and knowledge of SABSA in the cyber security community
  • Discussion around why TSI members were letting their membership lapse and the biggest takeaway was that there is now automated registration renewal. Interestingly, a few attendees were not aware they were entitled for a first year free membership to the TSI after successfully passing their SCF exam.
  • Conversation on the need for “examples of good” of SABSA artefacts – which also was a call to action for TSI members to actively contribute back the community
  • Close out on opportunities to continue collaboration with the SecARCH SIG

Bruce thanks David for his robust conversation and appreciates his insights and participation on the night! Bruce also thanks the Deloitte Brisbane team and AISA for hosting the event.
